The twentieth century was the most dangerous period in the history of the world. beginning with a World War that resulted in the deaths of millions and the destruction of vast strretches of land.

Twenty-one years later, the global conflagration began again, with many more millions dead and many countries completely devastated. It ended with the dropping of two atomic bombs, which heralded the dawn of a new age....an age in which ordinary people across the world would look up at the sky and wonder how long it would be before fire and death would drop from it and end their lives and destroy civilisation. Many thousands of men and women died, not only in the major wars that followed, from Korea to Vietnam and Afghanistan, but also in the minor or 'proxy' wars, in which the major powers pitted their strengths against each other without ever coming to a direct confrontation.

Berlin, Korea, South-East Asia, Cuba, Africa....all were to become scenes of major crises, in which just one mistaken move could have set the world on fire.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

We exist to bring alive again the hopes, fears, struggles and tensions of those days with the one purpose of adding to knowledge and understanding of these conflicts so that others may be prevented in the future. We work in partnership with other organisations that have similar aims, and will promote their causes too. We reserve the right at all times not to work with individuals or organisations who do not support these principles.
